The Taronga Western Plains Zoo is commonly called the Dubbo Zoo and is located near Dubbo in New South Wales. The Zoo was opened in 1977 and is run by the Taronga Conservation Society. The Zoo is home to more than 1,000 animals including the Black Swan, Australian Pelican, White-handed Gibbon, Spider Monkey, Black Rhinoceros, Ostrich, etc and is spread across a large area of 741 acres.
The Taronga Western Plains Zoo was constructed to breed larger animals and to provide greater living space to antelopes and elephants than was available at Sydney Zoo. Taronga Western Plains Zoo is constructed in a manner creating an impression of the animals actually roaming free in the wild!
