Tourist Attractions in Mosman, NSW

Mosman is located on the north shore of Sydney harbor stretched from the north of Sydney harbor to the Hornsby Plateau. The city is situated about 8 km northeast of Sydney central business district.

Mosman was named after Archibald Mosman who moved into this area in 1831. They had shipping business. They built a whaling station on the bay which later became known as Mosman's Bay. Archibald's grave is located in a cemetery in St Jude's Church in Randwick.

Mosman area was originally occupied by the Borogegal tribe. Europeans started to settle in this region from 1789. It was an important military and naval station for its harbor front location. From the beginning of the 20th century, many shops, homes and parks were built.

Mosman is a wonderful harborside suburb with plenty of opportunities for activities and sightseeing.

The Military Road is the center point for meeting the locals as well as for shopping and dining.

Chowder Bay is famous for kayaking. It is also popular for some unique waterfront restaurants and old buildings.

To enjoy local wildlife, Taronga Zoo is a perfect place. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Mosman. It houses more than 4000 animals including Australia’s local animal platypus, koalas and kangaroos. Tourists can also enjoy the bird show and seal show arranged here daily.   

On the other hand, Balmoral Beach is popular for swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing and sailing and many other beach activities. The beach is popular with the families for picnic and sandcastles.

Georges Head lookout gives a great view of the harbor. The lookout has essential facilities for tourists such as stone walkways, beautiful lawns and public toilets.

Mosman is only a 20-minute drive from the city center of Sydney. Public buses and trains run between these cities regularly.
